The principles of dog assisted intervention

The essential prerequisite to implement Dog Assisted Intervention is fulfilment and compliance with the requirements laid down in the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals and compliance with the Slovenian legislation on animal health and welfare.

Rules on protection of pet animals

The dog handler is responsible for providing accommodation and care of animals in accordance with the regulation for the protection of animals. The person who is conducting the Animal Assisted Intervention is responsible for the welfare of the dog during the implementation. He/she must ensure that the frequency, duration and intensity of mediation is tailored to the well-being of the dog and make sure that the animal is feeling well. At the first sign of distress or stress the mediation must immediately be discontinued.
